Product Description

Johannes Brahms Symphony No. 4 in E minor The Royal Philharmonic Fritz Reiner, conductor Brahms' Symphony No. 4 may be a compact work, but it also has a dramatic excitement and youthful strength greater than its three predecessors. The coda to the first movement is as intense and forceful as any music that has ever been penned. The second movement also has a drama and power one does not usually associate with slow movements. The third movement is not the gentle interlude found in other Brahms symphonies but a massive, powerful scherzo. The fourth movement, is the climax of the symphony. Considering the musical intellect behind this final movement, indeed the entire output of Brahms, it is no wonder that Hans von Bulow bestowed upon Brahms the appellation "the third B" - the musical successor to Bach and Beethoven.
