David Chesky - The New York Rags

"...the best, most realistically natural sound I've heard." -Steve Guttenberg, The Audiophiliac

Lenny White, drummer from Return to Forever, joins sought after world percussionist Jamey Haddad and classical percussionist Mark Sherman for the most unique Drum and Percussion session ever recorded. Funk meets world, meets classical music! The Explorations in Space and Time album features the Soundfield and binaural versions as well as additional bonus binaural tracks!

This recording has two completed versions. The first, recorded with the Soundfield microphone configured as a Blumlein Pair, a stereo technique that produces exceptionally realistic soundstage. The second version used a Neumann KU-100 binaural microphone, recorded with a microphone implanted within a “dummy” head’s ear canals, thus recording sound images as heard by the average person. When played over a high quality, full-size system or headphones, the binaural adaptation provides a stunningly accurate 3D reproduction of the original sound field.

Explorations In Space and Time

Lenny White "...the best, most realistically natural sound I've heard." -Steve Guttenberg, The Audiophiliac

Lenny White, the drummer from Return to Forever, joins Jamey Haddad - one of the most sought-out world percussionists - and trained classical percussionist Mark Sherman for the ultimate and most unique Drum and Percussion session ever recorded. Funk meets world, meets classical! The Explorations in Space and Time album features both the Soundfield and binaural versions as well as bonus binaural tracks.

This recording was done in two versions. The first, like all Chesky recordings, was done with the Soundfield microphone configured as a Blumlein Pair, which is a stereo recording technique that produces an exceptionally realistic soundstage.

The second version was recorded with a Neumann KU-100 binaural microphone, which consists of a "dummy" head with a microphone implanted in the head's ear canals, to record a sound image as it would be heard by a human. When played over a good-quality full-size system or through in-ear headphones, the binaural version will give a stunningly accurate and realistic 3D reproduction of the original sound field.

Binaural+ Series

Binaural+ Series Chesky Records is proud to introduce its new Binaural+ Series. Binaural sound has been around for a long time, but until now it was just for headphones and could not be enjoyed on speakers. Our Binaural+ Series recordings sound great on speakers and headphones, and capture the sound of music as you would if you were sitting in front of the band. The Binaural+ Series sessions were recorded in high-resolution 192-kHz/24-bit sound with a special Binaural head (a "dummy" human head with specially calibrated microphones where the ears would be). The headphone market is booming and we think it is important to bring the ultimate in high-resolution sound to this sector of the record business. Now headphone users will hear the same three-dimensional sound and imaging as audiophiles have for the past 25 years with Chesky Recordings. Also these new Binaural+ Series albums capture even more spatial realism for the home audiophile market, bringing you one step closer to the actual event.
