About The Record

Obed Calvaire, Bob Franceschini, Kevin Hays, and Orlando Le Fleming will be releasing their album, Whole Lotta Love: The Music of Led Zeppelin with Chesky Records this summer. The album features the quartet playing jazz arrangements of some of Led Zeppelin’s most famous tracks like “Immigrant Song,” “Kashmir,” and “Whole Lotta Love.”

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the album is a departure from the traditional Chesky Records single microphone recording technique. Instead, we used multiple ribbon mics recorded at 192/24 kHz while the musicians were in isolation booths to ensure their safety. The end result captures the same natural, warm, and intimate sound of a jazz combo that you would get listening to them at your favorite jazz club.

We hope that things open up soon so that we can record larger groups in our traditional large acoustic spaces. In the meantime, Whole Lotta Love manages to preserve the crystal clear audiophile sound that you love, and will doubtlessly amaze you with this unique reimagining of Led Zeppelin’s music.
